Kotohira-gu, popularly known as “Konpira-san,” is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the seafaring-associated deity, Omono-nushi-no-mikoto, and Emperor Sutoku. Located halfway up Mt. Zozu in the town of Kotohira in Kagawa Prefecture, this renowned shrine has 785 stone steps to the main shrine and additional 583 steps to Izutama Shrine, the innermost shrine. This shrine possesses several Important Cultural Assets, including the main shrine, wall paintings by Maruyama Okyo, and a statue of the eleven-faced Kannon Bodhisattva.
