The App Store Connect error “ITMS-90725: SDK Version Issue” usually means the app was built with an Xcode or SDK version that no longer meets Apple’s minimum submission requirements.
What causes ITMS-90725?
Common causes include archiving with an outdated Xcode version, using an older Xcode image in CI/CD, having xcode-select point to a different Xcode installation, or accidentally uploading an older archive.
As of September 2026: since April 28, 2026, apps uploaded to App Store Connect must be built with Xcode 26 or later using the iOS 26, iPadOS 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, or watchOS 26 SDK or later, depending on the target platform.
Typical situations
- The archive was created on a Mac that still has an old Xcode version.
- Your local build uses a recent Xcode version, but the CI runner does not.
- Fastlane or command-line builds are using another Xcode installation.
- You updated Flutter, React Native, or Unity but not the actual Xcode toolchain used for the iOS archive.
How to check your environment
1. Check the Xcode version
xcodebuild -version
2. Check the active developer directory
xcode-select -p
3. Check installed SDKs
xcodebuild -showsdks
Fix 1: Update Xcode
Install an Xcode version that satisfies the current App Store Connect submission requirements. After updating, launch Xcode once and install any additional components it requests.
Fix 2: Create a fresh archive
Updating Xcode does not change an archive that was already built. In Xcode, run Product → Clean Build Folder, then Product → Archive and upload the newly created archive.
Fix 3: Correct xcode-select
If multiple Xcode versions are installed, command-line tools may still point to an older one.
sudo xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer
Then run xcodebuild -version again to verify the active toolchain.
Fix 4: Update your CI/CD environment
If you build with GitHub Actions, Bitrise, Codemagic, Jenkins, Fastlane, or another CI service, update the macOS image and Xcode version used by the build job. If local uploads work but CI uploads fail, this is one of the first things to check.
Fix 5: Check Flutter, React Native, or Unity builds
Cross-platform frameworks still rely on Xcode and Apple SDKs for the final iOS binary. Updating the framework alone is not enough. For Flutter, this command is also useful:
flutter doctor -v
Will increasing the Deployment Target fix it?
Usually no. The Deployment Target controls the oldest OS version your app can run on. ITMS-90725 concerns the SDK used to build the submitted binary. Raising the Deployment Target while continuing to build with an outdated Xcode version does not solve the underlying problem.
Important notes
Apple changes minimum SDK requirements over time. If this error appears in the future, check Apple’s current Upcoming Requirements page before relying on an older Xcode recommendation. Also remember that a newer Xcode release being accepted by App Store Connect does not necessarily mean it is the minimum required version.
Summary
To fix ITMS-90725, verify the Xcode and SDK used to create the final archive, update Xcode if necessary, correct xcode-select, update your CI environment, and create a brand-new archive before uploading again.
