Kotohira-gu, popularly known as “Konpira-san,” is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the seafaring-associated deity, Omono-nushi-no-mikoto, and Emperor Sutoku. Located halfway up Mt. Zozu in the town of Kotohira in Kagawa Prefecture, this renowned shrine has 785 stone steps to the main shrine and additional 583 steps to Izutama Shrine, the innermost shrine. This shrine possesses several Important Cultural Assets, including the main shrine, wall paintings by Maruyama Okyo, and a statue of the eleven-faced Kannon Bodhisattva.

(金刀比羅宮は、「こんびらさん」の名で親しまれており。航海に関連した神である大物主命とと崇徳天皇を祀る神社である。香川県琴平町の象頭山中腹にあるこの有名な神社は、本宮まで785段、奥社の厳魂神社まではさらに583段の石段がある。本宮、丸山応挙 作の障壁画、十一面観音像などの重要文化財を所有する)
