Sounkyo in Daisetsuzan National Park, the largest national park in Japan, is a range of gorges 100-200 meters high and extending some 24 kilometers along the Ishikari River. Located at the foot of Mt Daisetsu, which is dubbed “the Roof of Hokkaido,” it is well-known for its waterfalls and magnificent cliff scenery. Two famous waterfalls, Ginga-notaki, or “Galaxy Falls” and Ryūsei-no-taki, or “Shooting Star Falls,” are among the top 100 most beautiful waterfalls in Japan.

Sounkyo is located almost in the center of Hokkaido, and the first people I learned were the Ainu people, who are the indigenous people of Hokkaido. It is said that they passed along the Ishikari River during hunting and followed brown bears to the alpine zone of Daisetsuzan.
From the Ainu people, it is called “Kamin Mintara”, a garden where the gods play.
In summer, rafting and mountain climbing in rivers and mountains. In winter, you can heal your tiredness with a dog sledding experience and an open-air bath.
層雲峡は北海道のほぼ中央に位置し、最初に知ったのは、北海道の先住民であるアイヌの人たちです。彼らは狩猟の際に石狩川沿いを通り、ヒグマなどを追って大雪山の高山帯まで登っていったといわれています。
アイヌ民族からは「カムインミンタラ」、神々の遊ぶ庭と称されています。
夏は川や山でラフティングや山登り。冬は犬ぞり体験と露天風呂で疲れを癒すことができます。
