Kintaikyo, located in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is a series of five-arched wooden bridge on four stone piers that extends across the lower Nishiki River. This unique bridge,which is 193.3 meters long and 5 meters wide, has an elaborate wooden framework made of winding wires and clamps, and is counted as one of the three most famous bridges in Japan. It has gone through three reconstructions since it was originally built in 1673 by the third lord of Iwakuni domain, Kikkawa Hiroyoshi.
