The Shimanto-gawa in southwestern Kochi Prefecture is the second largest river in Shikoku with a basin area of 2,270 square kilometers.Stretching 196 kilometers from Mt. Irazu down to Tosa Bay, it is the longest river in Shikoku, which has 47 low water crossings and is fed by more than 300 tributaries.This first-rate river with no dam built along its main stream is often referred to as “the last pristine river in Japan,” blessed with sweetfish, eel, prawn and green laver.

(四万十川は、高知県の南西部に流れる流域面積2,270k㎡の四国第2位の河川である。 不入山から土佐湾まで、全長196kmの四国一長い河川で、[支流も含め] 47の沈下橋があ り300以上の支流が流れ込んでいる。この一級河川は、本流にダムが建設されていないことから「日本最後の清流」と呼ばれ、鮎・鰻・海老・青海苔に恵まれている)
