Yufuin Onsen is a hot spring resort in Oita Prefecture known for its quiet relaxing atmosphere and morning mist. Situated in an upland basin 450 meters above sea level at the foot of double-peaked Mt. Yufu dubbed “Bungo Fuji,” it is abundant with transparent hot springs which are believed to have therapeutic effects on neuralgia, muscle ache, and rheumatism. It is also home to many public baths including Shitanyu, a thatched-roof public bathhouse standing beside Lake Kinrin.
