Built in 1583 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a renowned daimyo in the Warring States period, Osaka Castle is a symbol of Osaka, which boasts the five-layered, eight-story donjon modeled after Azuchi Castle. The existing donjon, restored in 1931, has an observatory that commands a breath-taking panorama of Osaka City. The lower floors of the renovated donjon exhibit a collection of armor and memorabilia connected with Hideyoshi. Adding to its grandeur is the magnificent view of the castle tower beautifully illuminated against the night sky.
(大阪城は戦国時代の名高い大名豊臣秀吉が1583年に築城した大阪のシンボルで、安土城を手本に作られた5層8階建の天守閣を誇る。現存の天守閣は1931年に再建されたものだが、展望台からの大阪市内の眺めは息をのむばかり。再建された天守閣の下層には甲冑や秀吉ゆかりの形見の品が展示されている。壮麗な天守閣は、夜空にライトアップされ美しく浮かび上がる様も素晴らしい)
